\\the perks of everything//

Everything happens for a reason. I have had this belief for my entire life, but it hasn’t been until I became an adult  that I truly realized how true this belief of mine is. Nothing happens by accident or by chance. To some this belief may sound naive, but I have seen up close the truthfulness.

I saw the truthfulness to this statement after returning to BYUI from a semester at UVU. Even now I am seeing the impact from that decision.

Right now I am living at my Aunt & Uncles house. This was a last-minute decision I made after my contract at my apt was up before I move back to Idaho. I spend my days now working and being with my family.

The other night the power went out and being children of technology me and my cousin, Jessica, decided since we couldn’t watch Netflix, we would watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower. We only were able to watch half of it before my computer died, but throughout the movie Jessica would mention how it differed from the book. This prompted me to go out and buy the book, and honestly I haven’t gone out of my way and bought a book and had time to read it in a long time (college kind of killed the joy of reading for me).

I started reading the book and towards the end of the book (this scene is left out of the movie). The main character talking to his teacher at the end of the school year, and the teacher explains to the main character why all year he would give him extra readings and papers to write. He explained how the main character is brilliant and wondered if no had told him that before and if he realized it. The main character did not.

After reading these few short pages, in a scene which wasn’t even in the movie I had a breakthrough moment. Lately I have been questioning if I actually still want my major, and have been freaking out because I only have 3 semesters left, so it’s a little late to change my mind. This passage, in this particular book reminded why I chose my major.

I chose my major to make a difference in other people’s lives, to make sure they know that life may kick them around, and that its okay. Life is tough but we can more than get through it, we can excel in it. And that everyone is special, unique and matter.

Life has a funny way of always working out, and getting answers in the strangest ways. b8978db229d518ddd3f5337e6ec6b794
